Blog status

Hi everyone,
I know it is now March and my blog is still showing a picture from Christmas. I am very sorry for the lapse but I have some broken parts and therefore am unable to update with any photos. Which is a real bummer because I have been playing with all my Christmas presents and making some really fun cards. I have also started scrapping again. I am hoping to get my blog back up soon so please check back.
Thank you for your patience.

KW Color Challenge #25

Wow 25 color challenges! Congratulations to Kristina Werner for again coming up with a challenging color palette. I loved these colors but when I sat down to make a card I struggled… and I made a big mess. I am not thrilled with my cards but at least I made the effort so here you go…

HAPPY fall

Hi again….
Tonight is my first card swap. I am excited to see the other’s style. I just hope I am up to par. When I look at the other entries at Kristina Werner’s site (she is becoming my mecca for cards), I feel so boring.
Anyway here it is, and yes as I was photographing it I realized it is very similar to my Color Inspiration card. I guess I wasn’t as creative with that as I thought since my card swap cards have been done for a week.

Stamps - SU Flower for all Seasons Set, Savvy Stamps Happy fall
Paper - Generic cardstock (SU Colors Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Pumpkin Pie, Very Vanilla)
Watercolor - SU Watercolor Crayons Earth Elements
Ink - VersaMark, Pumpkin Pie, StazOn in black and clear embossing powder.
Ribbon - Offray 1/4″ Chocolate Organdy

Color Inspiration #24

I always want to participate in Kristina Werner’s Color Challenge but my desk is never clear.  But a few weeks ago I spent two days revamping the entire office.  I moved, resorted, claimed and reclaimed quite a bit more space for myself.  Poor JT only has a corner of the office now and I have doubled or tripled my area.  Sorry honey,…but, Yeah for me!

Here is my card for this weeks color challenge.  I finally got my packs of Stampin’ Up papers so I had the right ones.  Wow it was fun to play with the real stuff verses my poor attempts at stash matching.

This is the first time I have tried sketching before I started cutting.  Wow, what a time and product saver!  Card Stock - SU Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip (Oops) Close to Cocoa and Whisper White.  Stamp Set - Fiskars Clear Stamps: Turkey Lurkey.  Watercolor - SU Watercolor Crayons: Earth Elements.  Ink - Versa Mark with Clear Embossing Powder and StazOn: Black.  Ribbon - Offray 1/4″ Satin.  Other - White Gel Pen.

KW Color Challenge #21

So I didn’t get my card done in time to enter it but I thought I would post it anyway.  Kristina Werner’s Color Challenge this week was super hard.  It took me almost all day to come up with a design that included all the colors.  The teal color threw me.

Tomorrow is my first Stamp Club meeting.  I have joined a group of 10 so I am very excited to see everyone else’s style and ideas.  Then on the 13th (my birthday) I am hosting a Stamp Camp.  Whew Whoo it’s gonna be a Stampin’ September!

First Day of Kindergarten

We made it!

Jack started Kindergarten today.  We braved the hoards of parents with cameras, camera phones and video cameras trying to get the perfect shot to commemorate their child’s first day too.  Jack was nervous but thrilled to meet new kids and start school.  Armed with Scooby Doo backpack and lunchbox he entered the classroom and couldn’t wait until we left.  And what was his favorite thing about school today?…Two recesses!

Jack\'s headed for the first day of school!

How was Mom?  I was fine, no tears just tons of pride.  I was ready for summer to be over and for Jack to start this adventure.  I know he will do really well and have a great time.  I look forward to finishing projects around the house, making Christmas gifts and enjoying some time on my own.  But don’t think I am kidding myself, I will miss him very much and will be waiting impatiently to hear all about his every day.

KW Color Challenge #19

I cannot believe I have been so preoccupied that it has been a month since I updated my blog.  Bad Blogger!

Anyway, I wanted to play with paper and so I cleaned off a spot on my very messy desk and attempted the undertaking of Kristina Werner’s Color Challenge….

So I got my paper together and a few new toys and got to work.  I haven’t made a card in several weeks so I wasn’t in a good groove.  Maybe I should try sketching? Hmmm….  Anyway here’s the card (sorry for not so great photography).

Color challenge 19

MAMMA MIA!

Sorry it has been so long since I have posted a message.  We have been very busy remodeling our bathroom.  Unfortunately it is going slower than I had planned.

I haven’t been able to work on cards lately since my office has taken on a life of its own, multiplying and growing into a huge mess.  I am hoping that I will get it organized this week.

Now!, This morning I finally made it to MAMMA MIA!, … and can I just say “LOVED IT!”

It was sooo awesome.  I went with my Mom, Sister and Aunt.  We all agreed we could turn around and head right back in.  Meryl Streep was amazing and how cute was Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth.  Of course I love Colin Firth so anything he does is charming.  So if you are wondering if you should see it…GO! and take me with you!

Costa Rica

Buenas!

We got back late Wednesday night from our whirl wind trip to Costa Rica.  What an amazing country.  I had never been out of the States before (except to walk across the boarder into Mexico for an hour or two, when I was a kid).

Aetna who sponsored our trip did an over the top job arranging the most opulent parties and awe inspiring tours.  I am going to post pictures of some of our experiences.  I was a once in a lifetime trip and someday JT and I hope to go back and see more.

We are glad to be home even though a mountain of laundry awaits.

Happy Friday!

Not just another Memorial Day

Memorial Day the past few years for so many has meant the beginning of summer and the start of camping season.  Our family usually has a big family garage sale after spending spring cleaning and purging.

But this Memorial Day was about remembering.  What it was meant for.  Remembering those who served our country.  This Memorial Day we did just that.

We were thrilled to be invited to a friends house on Monday.  He was my husbands best man and she was my bridesmaid and of course we had done the same for them.  But he was more than that to JT.  He was JT’s Navy buddy on the USS Parche and two other old buddies and their families made it too.  They had all been on the boat together.  They spent the day talking about old times, Captains, Chiefs, Shipmates and Practical Jokes played.  It was before the “kinder, gentler Navy”, before stress cards and the end of hazing.  But not one of them have any resentment or hard feelings.  It was like a family reunion with your brothers that you haven’t seen in years.  We, as wives, listened with pride to our “boys” bond about such an important time in their lives.  Of course like any brothers it wasn’t long before the silliness started and they were giving each other a hard time and playing like the kids. No one wanted to go.  And if there hadn’t been responsibilities like work and school we would have stayed all night.

I don’t know if we will have another day like that for a while but it was a great one!  I hope your Memorial Days were special too.

Score!

Hey all,

I finally made it to All Scrapped Up!  As I said previously she is closing the store front and going online.  Her website will be updated and new and improved by June 27th when she closes the doors.  But enough about her, I got a new toy!  Tons of paper and ink and a stamp, a punch and a few stickers.  I am so excited to get playing with all my new stuff.

But I must refrain from playing right now.  Tomorrow..,Tomorrow while Jack is in school…

Speaking of tomorrow…I have to pick up JT’s Father’s Day gift that he has been begging for.  (Shh! we’re getting the Wii Fit).  I let you know if we lose any weight. :)

So Sweet…

So tomorrow is the Preschool’s end of year picnic and Thursday is the end of regular classes.  Jack has really loved his class and the teachers have been so great.  I wanted to do a little something for them.  I am going to make them a few cookies and tuck in this card.  I thought it might be cute.  I was inspired by Kristina Werner’s MACM and all the cute cupcake stuff out right now.

So Sweet

Whew!

Where has the week gone?  It was just Monday.  I would love to say that I have been so busy and have tons to show for a lost week but I just don’t.  I spent the time Jack was in school running errands here and there but that’s it.  To be honest, I probably spent too much time playing with my new laptop.  I am a gamer at heart so I was excited to play some new games while I wasn’t doing laundry or vacuuming.

I have some good and bad news for my “paper crafty” friends!  The bad news is that All Scrapped Up in Des Moines is closing its doors as of June 27th.  It is so sad to see another scrapbook store close, especially one so close to home.  But the good news is, she is having a great sale.  I am going to try and head down there tomorrow.  I have heard she has quite a bit of paper and ribbon left among other things.  I will have to let you all know about the good deals I find!

The owner sent out this email in Thursday…

Kindergarden Round-Up

So, tonight was Jack’s Kindergarden Round-up.  For those of you that don’t know what that is, basically a orientation for parents and a chance for the kids to meet their teachers, principal and see the classrooms they will be in.  Jack was thrilled to see his buddy Ryan showed up too.  After the question and answer period it was time for the tour and to meet the teachers.  Jack and Ryan joined hands and off they went exploring the classes together.  It was so sweet.  They are a good match and it will be nice for them to have someone to relate to.  Now whether this is buddy system will lead to classroom antics remains to be seen.

Regardless, I know the summer that is only peaking around the corner will be over too soon and my little man will be off to big boy school.

Happy Mother’s Day!

My new HP Laptop!

Okay, I am so spoiled. My super-awesome hubby surprised me with a huge Mother’s Day present! A good 6 months ago our hammy-down laptop which I had claimed as my own fried itself. This was devastating to me because my husband is a “Geek” (affectionate term for computer obsessed, IT Director/programmer), who loves Linux. I, myself, am a Windows baby. Not that I believe Microsoft is the end all, just that it is easy and most things are Windows compatible. Any-who, for the last 6 months I have been using his Linux box and he has been very gracious to allow me to use it, even though I complain daily about it’s in compatibility with our printer, things I can’t download,..etc. So… as a big, huge, broad-siding surprise he bought me my very own brandy-spanking new laptop. It is probably a big bribe to get me off his computer but I don’t care, it isn’t something I would have gone and gotten for myself.

I hope all you Mom’s out there have a wonderful day! We deserve some lovin’.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Color Challenge No. 8

Okay the real reason I started my blog is to do this…

Kristina Werner\'s Color Challenge #8

I have been reading Kristina Werner’s blog since before the first color challenges started and I wanted to participate too. Some of her inspiration color combos can be quite a hard for me to relate to but this one said …Coast Guard. Weird, huh? Maybe I have been watching to much “Deadliest Catch” on Discovery or maybe I just associate everything with my son’s toys spread through out the house. Regardless here is my attempt.Thank you Coast Gaurd

Disney

Last weekend we flew down to spend the weekend with my Dad in California.  We took Jack to Disneyland for his first amusement park experience.   He loved every minute but the best part was meeting Mickey Mouse.  Here is our picture.  I will post a few more photos once I figure this out.
